Capture the Flag is a favorite activity for kids. In P.E. the 5th grade girls have been learning and playing several versions of this classic game. The game provides an opportunity to run, chase, and flee; but, the most important lesson is developing team strategy and finding fun amidst the fierce competition.

It is back to school week, and I am excited to meet the new students, greet the returning students, and get moving.

The Physical Education program at Stevenson is designed to promote lifetime health and fitness. Each class is set up to build a love of movement through success based activities.  .

So what will a typical P.E. session look like? The 2nd-8th grade students will change into a P.E. uniform at the beginning of class and then join together in the mulitpurpose room for an instant activity/warmup. Kindergarteners and first graders do not change, and so go straight into movement activities. Then, we head out to the field and courts to continue our movement in a larger area. Many days we will have skill and fitness stations where the students rotate through many different types of activities during the entire session. Game play is an important and fun aspect of P.E. that I usually try to fit in to every session. The session ends with clean up, high fives, and changing back into school uniform.
